currently grappling with this exact dynamic within the Radical Faeries of Destiny. the current governance system prioritizes yt voices. when proposed an idea spearheaded by a Black faerie (me) to shift and equalize power, the amount of pushback from the old guard was astounding. someone actually suggested a form of affirmative action.
The BIFoC Seed Fund is meant to provide resources to Black, Indigenous Faeries of Color and autonomy over how the funds are used. blocking concerns include monopoly of power, changing the consensus system, and restriction of yt fae from autonomous spaces, including land.
the proposal isn’t perfect, but it is workable. and because it isn’t the way things have always been done, i’m willing to try. now for yt faeries to get on board.
