First Amaranth harvest! About 1 cup of Amaranth from 6 plants, with plenty left for the chickens. Still figuring out the best winnowing technique (all those pink flowers need to go!)

Harvested the plants when their heavy heads had finally fallen over and snapped the upper stalk – they were easily 8 to 9 feet tall (see upper center right photo of our unruly gardens, can’t believe how quickly the clover took over after we harvested garlic in that area!)

(goat photo is just a bonus, they were not involved in the Amaranth harvest, but dang they’re cute!)

Anyway, leaving the lower seed and stalk in the gardens where it’ll hopefully reseed naturally next year. Happy fall, ya’ll.
